About This Tournament

Team Trophies!

Three players in the rated sections attending the same school (as of the spring 2026 semester). Teams have no upper limit; the more players on a team, the higher the chances for a good result, but only the top 3 players’ results count for the team total. The team gains points by winning or drawing rated games. Points are weighted, with results in higher sections worth more. Mohar National day Chess Tournament – Scholastic and Open Chess Tournament November1, 2026 Mohar Chess Academy — 3170 Peachtree Pkwy Ste 113, Suwanee, GA 30024, USA 4SS, G/25;d5  4 sections – An Open section for adults and advanced scholastic players, 2 Rated Scholastic-only sections for K-12 players and a Nonrated Scholastic practice section for new and young players. ROUND TIMES:  First round is at 1:00PM, rounds 2-4 will start ASAP after the preceding rounds finish with a slightly longer break for lunch between rounds 2 and 3. We are done around 7pm PM. NONRATED SECTION: The Nonrated section is for new/unrated players and players rated below 300 who need practice. While the rules of chess still apply, this is a more relaxed game designed to let new and young players experience chess without worrying about ratings. New players may choose to play in the Under 400 section if they want to become rated. 2 SCHOLASTIC-ONLY RATED SECTIONS: Under 600 and Under 1200: These sections require an active US Chess Federation membership (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). New players wanting a rating play in the Under 600.  OPEN SECTION: This Section is available to both adults and scholastic players. Scholastic players rated over 1199 must play in this section; however, any scholastic player rated 1000+ may choose to play in either the Open or kids-only Under 1200 section. Players will be placed in the section that matches their rating unless granted an exemption by the Tournament Director. Rated sections may be combined at TD discretion. ENTRY FEE: Registration received till 31st October is $40.  Same day, onsite registration is $50 and must be completed by 9:00AM to be paired for Round 1. Late sign ups may receive a ½ point round one bye. Join us each Thursday for some Casual Chess or to play in the Superior Grand Prix Seasonal USCF-Rated Chess Tournament!

Casual chess is always FREE! Come to learn or play with family and friends in a fun atmosphere with food and beverages!

Please bring your own tournament size board, pieces, and clock to play in the tournament. We are a new chess club so only a few chess sets and clocks will be available while we grow.

Superior Grand Prix Tournament - 3RR Quads; G/20+5 Entry Fee: $5 (non-refundable)

  • 6:00pm : Onsite Registration Opens
  • 6:45pm : Last Registration Taken
  • 6:50pm : Pairings!
  • 7:00pm : Clocks Start!!

Each week we'll play a standard USCF Quad Tournament, which is like a mini-Round Robin with three Rounds of G/20+5 (USCF Quick Rating). Members will be awarded Grand Prix Points based on where they place in their Quad after completing three rounds (see below). Each player accumulates GP points for their top weekly GP Scores throughout the 3-month "Season" (you don't have to play in every single weekly Quad to compete on equal footing!). A Grand Prix Season Leaderboard will be maintained ranked by the total GP points in each player's top 8 weekly GP scores throughout the current Grand Prix Season (see examples below).

There are NUMEROUS ways to win Cash Prizes at the end of each Grand Prix Season:

  • Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ca$h Prizes for the Grand Prix Season Champions: Top 3 Players on the Leaderboard!
  • USCF Class Champions: Ca$h Prizes for the top player by GP points in each USCF Class!
  • Additional Ca$h Performance Awards: Giant Killer, Most improved, Highest Win %, and Longest Hot Streak!

In a Quad tournament players are ranked by USCF Rating highest to lowest (based on USCF Live ratings) and broken into groups of four starting from the top. This way each "Quad" of four players should be as closely rated as possible for the players who participate each week. Each player then plays the other three players in the Quad in a mini-Round Robin with standard tournament scoring for the Quad: 1 pt for a win, .5 pt for a draw, 0 pt for loss, no Byes. Upon completion of the 3 rounds players are awarded Grand Prix Points based on their placement in the Quad RR as follows:

  • 1st = 4 GP pts
  • 2nd = 3 GP pts
  • 3rd = 2 GP pts
  • 4th = 1 GP pts

Grand Prix Season and USCF Class Leaderboard Examples: Grand-Prix-Leaderboard.pngClass-Leaderboard.pngImportant Notes!

  • Grand Prix points and standings will be tracked manually outside Chess67.
  • There will be NO tournament night on Thanksgiving (11/26)
  • Do not expect to always play in a perfectly quiet "chess tournament hall" environment. Our venues are most often in a family-oriented community environment.
  • Delicious food and beverages are always available, so please show our gracious hosts your gratitude by enjoying a drink, appetizers or dinner!
