Titled Chess Coaches in Mexico

The national federation, FENAMAC (Federación Nacional de Ajedrez de México), organizes Mexico's championship structure, including the National Absolute Championship held annually since 1973 and the older National Open (Campeonato Nacional Abierto), running since 1954 and open to foreign players. Mexico City has clubs coordinated through city associations like ACADFAC and a full calendar of open tournaments such as the Copa Independencia. The country's competitive tradition runs deep: Carlos Torre Repetto, born in Mérida, Yucatán, became one of the game's most celebrated players in the 1920s, famously defeating former world champion Emanuel Lasker in 1925, and gave his name to the Torre Attack. In the modern era, Manuel León Hoyos became Mexico's first player to cross 2600 FIDE and has represented the country at multiple Chess Olympiads.
