Chess Tournaments in Estonia

Chess in Estonia runs through the Estonian Chess Federation (Eesti Maleliit), founded in 1931, re-established in 1990 after independence, and a full FIDE member since 1992. Tallinn is the country's chess center, home to its leading clubs and most national events, with Tartu as a secondary hub. The Estonian Chess Championship has been contested almost every year since 1923, making it one of the more continuous national title series in Europe. Estonia fielded its own Olympiad team as early as 1935 in Warsaw, with Paul Keres playing top board, and has competed again as an independent nation since the 1990s, with grandmasters such as Kaido Külaots representing the country at multiple Olympiads and European Team Championships.
