Chess Clubs in Honduras

Chess in Honduras is coordinated by the Federación Nacional de Ajedrez de Honduras (FENAH), founded in 1993 in Tegucigalpa and affiliated with FIDE, though organized play predates the federation by two decades. The Liga Sampedrana de Ajedrez, founded in 1973 in San Pedro Sula, was the country's first chess league, followed in 1975 by the Liga Central de Ajedrez in Tegucigalpa; other regional leagues, including Copaneca, Olanchana, and Porteña, rounded out a structure built around city and department leagues rather than a single dominant club. FENAH runs the national championship each year, alongside a separate women's national championship. The country has not yet produced a grandmaster, but it has crossed real milestones: David Arturo Duarte is credited as Honduras's first International Master in 2004, and Nahún Gavarrete, a FIDE Master and three-time national champion, is currently the country's highest-rated player. Check federation and city league calendars for upcoming events.

• The Federación Nacional de Ajedrez de Honduras (FENAH), founded in 1993 and based in Tegucigalpa, is affiliated with FIDE, so FIDE-rated events and titles are earned through it.
• Local chess is organized through regional leagues rather than one national circuit, with the Liga Sampedrana de Ajedrez (San Pedro Sula, founded 1973) and the Liga Central de Ajedrez (Tegucigalpa, founded 1975) as the longest-running.
• FENAH runs an annual national championship plus a separate women's national championship; FIDE-rated norm events are relatively few, so players chasing title norms typically also travel to regional Central American and Caribbean tournaments.
