The Ukrainian Chess Federation is Ukraine's governing body for the game and a member of FIDE, the world chess federation. Ukraine's men's team won the Chess Olympiad in 2004 (Calvià) and again in 2010 (Khanty-Mansiysk), while the women's team took Olympiad gold in 2006 (Turin). Ruslan Ponomariov held the FIDE World Chess Championship title from 2002 to 2004, becoming champion at just 18.
