New Hampshire Open, Amateur Championship, school championships, and other state tournament details.
The New Hampshire Chess Association (NHCA) is the state's USCF affiliate and the organizing body behind most rated play in the state, running the New Hampshire Open, the NH Amateur Championship, the NH Senior Championship, the Queen City Open, and a slate of scholastic events. The New Hampshire Open itself has run for decades and is typically held at the Manchester DoubleTree with sections spanning beginners to experts. Outside Manchester, players have found homes in smaller club scenes: the Knights Chess Club in Keene serves the Monadnock Region, and Upper Valley Chess covers the Hanover/Lebanon area near the Vermont border. National Master Hal Terrie, a longtime NHCA secretary and USCF alternate delegate, has been one of the state's steadiest organizing and coaching presences for years.
- The New Hampshire Open, organized by the NHCA and now in its mid-70s of annual editions, is the state's marquee weekend tournament, typically held at the Manchester DoubleTree with sections for every rating level.
- Queen City Chess NH runs regular in-person meetups at the YMCA of Downtown Manchester, a good entry point for adult players looking for casual or rated games in the state's largest city.
- Players in the Monadnock and Upper Valley regions have their own local scenes through the Knights Chess Club in Keene and Upper Valley Chess, rather than having to travel to Manchester for every game.
